BREEAM Hea 06 Security-Needs-Assessments (SNA)

BREEAM is the world’s leading sustainability assessment method for master planning projects, infrastructure and buildings. It recognises and reflects the value in higher performing assets across the built environment lifecycle, from new construction to in-use and refurbishment. The purpose of the Security-Needs-Assessment (SNA) is to aid decision-making and allow the identification and evaluation of security recommendations or solutions. Within the Hea 06 safety and security section of BREEAM, there is a requirement to understand and take into account within the design and specification, the security needs of the building in addition to providing effective measures which support safe access to and from the building.

Expert Advice for Your Project

Engage Early in the Design Process

Engaging CornerStone at the earliest stages of a project ensures that security measures are effectively integrated into the wider design strategy. Although an SNA can be completed post RIBA stage 2, early engagement promotes cohesive planning, reduces design conflicts and helps achieve BREEAM credits while delivering long term operational performance.

Stakeholder Engagement

Our team liaises with external stakeholders including Designing Out Crime Officers (DOCO) and Counter Terror Security Advisors (CTSA) to gain a full picture of the site and surrounding area, ensuring our SNAs offer an in-depth evaluation of site conditions and vulnerabilities in line with the BREEAM accreditation.

Document Everything for Certification

The documentation provided by CornerStone allows our clients to implement these changes with ease and precision, with a focus on delivering value without compromising on quality.

Understand Your Site-Specific Risks

Our consultants work closely with design teams, developers and building operators to undertake comprehensive SNAs that align with the unique characteristics of each site or facility.
