Securing Oil Production Sites: Effectively deterring hostile militia attacks and improving personnel safety
As armed militia group activity peaked in the Niger Delta Region and oil companies were being attacked, regularly resulting in deaths, injuries, kidnappings and the loss of oil production, security had to be improved. To reduce the risks, the oil companies, with support from the Nigerian Government, Military and Law Enforcement agencies, embarked on massive investment programmes to implement standardised security measures, all of which had to operate in a hostile environment across a wide geographical area and be supported locally to protect their infrastructure and employees. CornerStone was employed by a large joint venture Oil Company to assist with this programme, and work alongside the project's embedded ex-military advisors in Port Harcourt.
